Eye Castle, Suffolk

Beth has been in Eye, Suffolk this week acting as an Expert Witness during an eight-day Inquiry. The application is for outline planning permission for up to 150 dwellings and, in this case, we are acting for the applicant. Heritage assets being considered are Eye Castle, the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Eye Conservation Area and a cluster of Grade II listed eighteenth-century cottages to the north of the site. We have found that the proposal will cause no harm to any of these heritage assets. The Council recommend the scheme for approval but, at Committee, Members went against their Officers’ recommendation and refused Planning Permission for the scheme. The Inspector’s decision is likely to be issued in March.
